Wise Music Group Acquires Iconic Zombies Songs In Deal With Bocu Group

Wise Music Group has announced the purchase of the Marquis, Verulam, and Mistletoe Melodies music publishing companies from The Bocu Group. In doing so it has acquired the music publishing rights in the hits of legendary rock band The Zombies together with many other well-known writers. Song titles include Rod Argent’s 1964 British and American hit “She’s Not There” as well as “Tell Her No”, “Care of Cell 44” and “Time of the Season” from the 1968 album Odessey and Oracle – the latter was sampled by Eminem in his 2013 song “Rhyme or Reason". The deal also contains Chris White’s “This Will Be Our Year”, notably covered by The Beautiful South, Foo Fighters and Vanessa Paradis, Argent and White’s “Hold Your Head Up”, and Russ Ballard’s “God Gave Rock and Roll to You” – famously covered by American hard rock band Kiss with modified lyrics – the track being released as a single in 1991 from the soundtrack to Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. Further song rights comprise titles from Colin Blunstone’s solo albums such as One Year, Ennismore and On the Air Tonight, plus “A Blossom Fell” by Howard Barnes, Harold Cornelius, and Dominic John, most notably recorded by Nat King Cole on Capitol Records, reaching No 2 in the US charts, and subsequently recorded by Patti Page, Tony Bennett and Diana Krall. Terry Thompson’s “A Shot of Rhythm and Blues”, is also included. The song was originally recorded by US soul singer Arthur Alexander, then covered by The Beatles, Cilla Black, and many others. The companies’ rights also encompass titles by Duffy Power, who was originally discovered by famous impresario and English pop manager Larry Parnes. Power penned “I’m So Glad You’re Mine”, “Mary Open the Door” and “If I Get Lucky”. He also wrote with Alexis Korner (“Long Black Train”). Further songs include Edwin Astley’s music for the TV series The Saint and Danger Man; jazz pianist-vocalist Mose Allison’s “Parchman Farm”, and Graham Bond’s “Spanish Blues”. The Bocu Group Managing Director Carole Broughton said: “I’m delighted to have concluded a deal with Wise Music. Wise Music Group Acquires Catalogue Of Legendary Italian Film Composer Riz Ortolani

Wise Music Group is proud to announce it has acquired the catalogue of legendary Italian composer Riziero ‘Riz’ Ortolani. Ortolani, who passed away in 2014 at the age of 87, was one of the most important Italian composers of the last century. He scored over two hundred films, working at first within the Italian genres of Mondo, Giallo and the Spaghetti Western before going on to score many Hollywood movies including The 7th Dawn, The Yellow Rolls-Royce, The Glory Boys, The Battle For Anzio, Buona Sera, Mrs Campbell and The Valachi Papers. His most famous composition is More which he wrote for the documentary Mondo Cane. It won the 1964 Grammy for Best Instrumental Theme and was nominated for an Academy Award. In 1965 Forget Domani won a Golden Globe for Best Film Song (from The Yellow Rolls-Royce). His music has been re-used in recent movies such as Drive, Django Unchained, Kill Bill (Vols I & II), and Inglourious Basterds. New Single From, some kind of peace, Out November 6th Via Mercury KX (Ólafur Arnalds by Anna Maggy; Bonobo by Bonobo by Benjamin Hardman) Next month, Icelandic multi-instrumentalist and composer Ólafur Arnalds will release his new album, some kind of peace, on November 6th via Mercury KX. Today, he offers a new single/video, “Loom” (Feat. Bonobo), which follows previous singles “Woven Song,” “We Contain Multitudes,” and “Back To The Sky (Feat. JFDR). “Loom” is the album’s luminous pulsing opener. “I had the pleasure of spending a week in Iceland with Ólafur last year camping, making music at his studio and playing a very special little party with Kiasmos in Reykjavik,” says Bonobo. “‘Loom' was one of the pieces we worked on together during that time. It was a real honor to create something with Ólafur. A friend and someone I admire greatly.” Arnalds adds: “I am a longtime fan of Bonobo and have been fortunate enough to get to know Simon as a friend in the last few years. As I started working on the album, I kept coming back to that one piece, ‘Loom,’ as it felt like the perfect album opener. We kept working on it remotely early this spring and the end result is something I'm incredibly proud of.” The accompanying video, directed by Neels Castillon and choreographed by Fanny Sage, is simply stunning. Three dancers move gracefully in a body of water surrounded by green mountains. As the video continues, their movements become more erratic, until it culminates in a moment of peace as a lone dancer leaves the water. “We filmed the piece in a mountain lake at 2000 meters, isolated from everyday life, and lost ourselves for four days in this quiet, surreal place,” explains Castillon. “The water was very cold so it was an intense experience for the dancers and the crew — and I think you can feel it in every shot of this unique little art film." Bonobo) Recorded at his studio at the harbour in downtown Reykjavik, some kind of peace is Ólafur’s most personal record to date, one that’s open and honest. The album is about what it means to be alive, daring to be vulnerable and the importance of rituals. Ólafur weaves real-world pieces of his life story throughout the album, masterfully using sampling techniques to give the listener a window into his experiences. RIP Frederick 'Toots' Hibbert

Frederick ‘Toots’ Hibbert, Grammy-Award winning multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and front-man of the legendary Jamaican group ‘Toots and the Maytals’, sadly passed away on Friday 11th September at the age of 77. The news was confirmed on the band’s official social media account with the words "It is with the heaviest of hearts to announce that Frederick Nathaniel 'Toots' Hibbert passed away peacefully tonight, surrounded by his family at the University Hospital of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica.”One of Jamaica’s most influential musicians, Toots was a pioneer in the popularisation of reggae music, often referred to as 'one of the fathers' of the genre. His career spanned six decades, helping establish the fundamentals of reggae including coining the name, first featured in his 1968 hit ‘Do The Reggay’. Toots told 6 Music “The music was there, and no-one didn’t know what to call it. I recorded this song (Do The Reggay) and people told me that the song let them know that our music is called Reggae. So, I’m the one who coined the word!”Toots’ death comes a matter of weeks after the release of Got to Be Tough, the band's first full-length album in more than a decade. The album, which saw Toots acting as producer, songwriter and musician, has received standout, worldwide recognition including a 6 page feature in Rolling Stone Magazine looking at Toots’ entire career leading to the release of Got To Be Tough. Toots said the album “is speaking out about injustices while pointing to a better time, teaching a path to recovery and step to better days on the journey ahead.
